Other services

In addition to the CNDs that represent our primary service specific activity (UT-RT-MT-PT-VT-TOFD-PAUT), we are also equipped for other types of controls or checks that may be requested, always in the Quality Control field:

MEASURE OF HARDNESS

We perform hardness test directly in the field at construction sites or workshops, using the PROCEQ EQUOTIP 2 portable durometer with Leeb D indenter which allows to measure the hardness on any structure or product that can be found in the various industrial production sectors.
Through the conversion tables, from the L value detected by the instrument with the action of the spherical indenter, HV, HB, HRC hardness values are obtained for each beat position (plane, frontal, oblique etc. on most of the materials used in constructions (Steels – Cast iron – Aluminum alloys – Copper alloys, etc.).

FERRITE MEASUREMENT

The measurement of the percentage of Ferrite (Fe%) or of the ferrite number (FN) is usually required on austenitic welds (Base Material / Fused zone), austenitic-ferritic (duplex / superduplex) or special coatings.
If required we use the FISHER FERITSCOPE MP30 instrument with 6 certified calibration samples having the following values:

2.40 FN (2.76 Fe%) ; 13.4 FN (14.8 Fe%) ; 13.6 FN (14.9 Fe%) ; 35.4 FN (31.3 Fe%) ; 35.9 FN (31.6 Fe%) ; 119.9 FN (84.5 Fe%).

MEASUREMENT OF THE MAGNETIC FLOW DENSITY OR THE INTENSITY OF THE MAGNETIC FIELD

For these tests we use the Gaussmeter GM04 produced by HIRST MAGNETIC INSTRUMENTS LTD. (UK) and we use it mainly to measure RESIDUAL MAGNETISM on:

  • Chamfer (welding bevels prepared by machine) before starting welding.
  • Welds complete (in particular in welding processes that use high amperages).
  • Products after machining (eg. keyways, gears).

MEASUREMENT OF THICKNESS OF PROTECTIVE COATINGS

For these verifications we use the MEGA -CHECK 5FN-ST tool produced by LIST-MAGNETIK GmbH (D) that allows to measure thicknesses up to 5000 microns on an iron basis, and 2000 microns on a non-ferrous basis.

  • With Magnetic Induction technique (0-5000 micron): on iron and steel base, amagnetic coatings such as paint, plastic, enamels, rubber, ceramics and galvanic coatings, except nickel, can be measured.
  • With Eddy Current technique (0-2000 micron): on non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper, bronze, zinc, lead and non-magnetic steels) all non-conductive coatings such as paint, plastic, rubber and anodized can be measured.

MEASUREMENT OF ROUGHNESS

For this test we use a Surtronic DUO roughness meter that measures many parameters only with a key, Ra Rz Rp Rv Rt, showing them on a 2.4″ color display with high contrast. The measuring unit can be separated from the display and this allows easy and fast measurements in many applications.
