TOFD (Time of Flight Diffraction) is one of the advanced ultrasonic controls which always finds greater application especially for the examination of thick welds and when sizing of the extension of a discontinuity along the thickness (height of the indication) is a primary target of the inspection.
We have ten-year experience in general with the TOFD control, which began with the control of longitudinal pipe welding, extended later with the control of welding of heavy carpentry, pressure vessels of various sizes and thicknesses.
We have everything we need to perform TOFD checks on welds in compliance with the most commonly used reference standards (Eg EN ISO 10863: 2011 / ASME Code Section V & VIII)
Equipment:
Instruments: OMNISCAN MX1 o MX2
Data aquisition directly through with Omniscan or Tomoview software.
Probes: Olympus from 2 to 15 Mhz
Scanners: manual or motorized (Olympus or IMG)
Personnel qualification.
The personnel is qualified and certified according to the requirements of the Standard ISO 10863 or the ASME code section. V
The documentation concerning the qualification and certification of the personnel is available when a check is requested.
The main applications of our competence are:
- Examination of longitudinal and circumferential welds on pipes or pressure vessel of various sizes and thicknesses, using motorized scanners.
- Inspections to locate and size discontinuities with greater precision, detected with traditional methods (eg manual UT or RT) in a specific component.
- Consultancy in order to evaluate the feasibility or advisability of applying TOFD control for specific applications.
- Preparation of test procedure for specific applications.
A separate note is dedicated to the control of welds of relatively low thickness (8-12 mm), for which we can boast a very important experience gained in the TOFD-Phased Array techniques that we have performed on almost all the gates of the MOSE (Project for the construction of mobile barriers to protect Venice from high water) that has continuously engaged us from 2013 to 2017 (in this regard, see specific section of the site).
