PAUT Corrosion mapping with motorized scanner

Corrosion mapping and verification of the residual thickness of the roof and the planking of a gasometer, performed with the aid of a HydroForm probe and remote-controlled motorized scanner to reach the outermost or highest areas quickly and in total safety.

PAUT+TOFD Circumferential welds of vessel

Registered combined PAUT + TOFD technique performed on circumferential welds of some ladles during manufacturing, with the use of a pair of Phased Array probes and a pair of TOFD probes mounted on a remote-controlled motorized scanner.

PAUT on welds of piping in service (Mose project)

Control of the welds of the pipes in-service as part of the Mose project in Venice. The inspections concerned both carbon steel and austenitic steel welds, of various diameters and different accessibility conditions which made it necessary to use different configurations and accessories.

PAUT Stainless steel gas vessel Tk.5mm

Inspection of austenitic steel welds of a gas transport vessel. The thickness of base material is 4.8mm. During the validation phase, numerous sample blocks were made, different by joint configuration and surface conditions, on which side drilled holes were made to perform calibration and notches positioned in various parts of the joint to demonstrate the effectiveness of the PAUT system.

PAUT Cobra Scanner Applications

Inspection of butt welds of pipe for a fire-fighting line as part of the Mose project and tube-flange T-welds on nozzles of various diameters, performed with Cobra scanners.

PAUT on Welds of Set-In Nozzles

PAUT registered of the circular (or elliptical as regards the tangential nozzles) welds between the nozzle-shell and nozzle-bottoms of pressure tanks as part of the TCO FGP / WPMP project. Thickness controlled from 43mm to 138mm + 5mm 316L or Inconel plating.

PAUT Corrosion mapping

Two cases of Corrosion Mapping (spot) performed with Phased Array ultrasonic technique (PAUT). An inspection that is carried out on pieces in service and as the name says, aims to provide a total mapping, or as in this case of some areas, of the conditions of the piece under testing (residual thickness for example). They are required for example during plant shutdowns, extraordinary maintenance or if a component deterioration is suspected.

PAUT WELD OF PIPELINE IN-SERVICE

PAUT recorded with motorized scanner, performed on circumferential welding (40 “) between pipe and interception valve of the transalpine pipeline. The inspection performed in-service has the objective of periodically monitoring the quality of the welding being able to exploit the advantage of comparing the scans of previous inspections.

PAUT Partial penetration welds of thick beam

Recorded PAUT performed on partial penetration T-joints between Web and Platband of a double T-beam, thickness 120mm. This project showed how this technique has brought a significant time saving, compared to a control with traditional UT, and at the same time a considerable increase in the level of inspection.

PAUT+TOFD Circumferential weld of piping

PAUT + TOFD combined technique performed on circumferential welds of pipes with a diameter greater than 4 inches and small thickness. A motorized scanner with magnetic wheels is used, the presence of 90° curves near the welds imposes to have reduced dimensions of the scanner.

PAUT+TOFD Longitudinal weld 125mm thick

PAUT + TOFD combined technique performed on longitudinal and circumferential welds of a course of 125mm thickness.

PAUT+TOFD Mose project
